Project GunGen: Random Fictional Gun Generator (WIP)

Project GunGen is a modular and procedural fictional gun generator for Blender (with planned plugins for Unreal Engine and Unity). The generator in Blender is built with MetaGen (yet to publish) and is basically a library of modular parts and connections, and a selection of procedural settings that affect the generation.

The project began with a need to create lots of fictional firearms for a game project. After designing and prototyping the gameplay elements and technical aspects of the weapons, we also needed a system to handle the visual creation of the weapons. I designed a system for Blender that could create combinations of the parts depending on a set of rules that eventually grew into a much larger project, that can now do much more procedural stuff than the early versions.

I've had a ton of help with this project and it would not be possible without certain people. My deepest appreciation goes to Sami T. for his programming expertise with UE4 and Riku A. for his work with MetaGen and Blender. I also want to thank Curtis Holt for his inspiring work with Blender and Borderlands developers for lots of ideas regarding gun generation.

Project GunGen is still a work in progress and there is a ton of things to tweak and modify. This project is also a part of MetaGen addon generators, that will all hopefully be published later this year.
